From Concept to
Community Impact

Since our beginnings in 2019, we believe in advancing the next generation through corporate citizenship and building a future of shared success for all Akiak citizens. This perspective of piciryaraq is the center to promoting, preserving and developing the traditions of the Akiarimiu.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to create a brightereconomic future for the Indigenousin Akiak, Alaska.

We call ourselves “Yupiit”

Yup’ik translates “real person”. The Yup'ik and Cup'ik rely on a subsistence lifestyle of hunting, fishing, and gathering local foods and our communities are spread across the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region.

We are Indigenous people of Alaska. Our ancestors have lived and thrived in one of the harshest areas of the world since time immemorial. The Yuit depend on subsistence hunting and fishing to sustain their bodies as well as their traditions and cultures. Storytelling and dance plays a vital role in passing along cumulative knowledge and wisdom about our physical survival, spirituality and individual and social well-belling.

Cooperation

Our Yupiaq worldview is premised on cooperation between the human and natural worlds, adapting to the circadian rhythm of the universe. Mutual support shapes the way we see the world.

Harmony with our Surroundings

In our Yupiaq worldview there is no need toseparate the things of earth into living versusnonliving. The earth is sacred, and the way wegenuinely live should do no harm to Motherearth.

Sharing

We not only share with one another, but with the world so as to recognize and acknowledge the interconnectedness of the universe. We share our profits with our community to build a richer future for all our citizens.

Hard Work

Through the wisdom of our elders, we learn through observation, experimentation and reflection to support our families and communities. Our approach is driven by example by displaying a strong work ethic and working together.
